Here are my FAVOURITE Travel Guide Books, and Stories about Travel.
I love reading. There is no pleasure greater than having a good book in hand, with a cup of tea beside you, as you dive deep into someone’s story of travel and how it moves them, or changes them in some way.
I spend A LOT of my free time immersed in travel novels.
The rest of my spare time, I’m scanning Travel books and Travel Guidebooks to help me build our next travel itinerary.
The Travel Novels I love so much, I went and bought my own copy.
As a committed minimalist, this is proof of how much I love these books.
Paris Letters by Janice MacLeod
I fell in love with this book. Paris Letters inspired me to think outside the square about my talents, and how to use them to fund more travel. I adore her ‘side hustle’ but I loved her descriptions of Paris, and the adventure of falling in love in Paris equally.
Wild by Cheryl Strayed
Some people have the best names, and there could not be a better one for the author of this travel novel. Cheryl strayed, yes she did, and wandered her way through her own ups and downs. I’m drawn to this in some strange way because I dream of packing up, and walking, and walking for no reason other than to continue the adventure.

Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
I’m a fan of Elizabeth Gilbert, though it was her book on Commitment that sealed that destiny. This book has grown on me over time, and with every reading now, I love it more.

Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer
Ever since I stumbled into an IMAX theatre and saw the documentary on the tragic events on Everest in 1996, I’ve been mesmerised by this story. Strangely, one of the men involved was a friend of my daughter’s teacher at school and came to give a talk a week after I watched the film.
I’ve read all the books, but this is the one I like best. It’s Jon’s personal account of the tragedy on Mt Everest. I’m never going to be someone with a death wish to climb Mt Everest but I am strangely compelled and awed by this mountain, and vow to walk to Base Camp sometime soon.

The Lost Art of Reading Nature Signs by Tristan Gooley
This book appeals to my inner nature spirit, a curiosity that has been stoked by years of working with young children in Steiner kindergartens, paying attention to the rhythms of nature and the seasons.
