Family Car Hire Paris
Electric car rental in Paris is perfect for family travel and sightseeing, when you want to go from place to place quickly but on your own time, and in short bursts.
The car fits four, and yes, there are restraint points in the car so you can fit your own carseats for your kids if you need. Inside, there’s a screen that tells you all about the car (how far you can drive etc) and a button that can connect you straight to the call centre in case of breakdown, a flat tyre or any other emergency.
As with all other rental car hire in Paris, it’s up to you to keep the car relatively clean and tidy. If you don’t, you’ll be charged a € 30 cleaning fee. (We suggest it’s better to let the kids snack in the park before you get in!)
The Electric Car Rental in Paris works like this:
1. Subscribe to Autolib Paris.
Subscribe online, in one of the Subscription kiosks, or in the Autolib Paris showroom located at 5, rue Edouard VII, Paris 9eme.
You need a valid driver’s licence (only International or European driving licences are accepted), a Valid ID (your passport), and a Credit Card (Visa or Mastercard preferred.) When you begin, you must subscribe to a rental plan (like a telephone contract).
The preferred one is (click on the pink tab) Autolib Premium where for € 10/month, you get access to a car 24/7 with unlimited reservations (both car and parking spot), and the best price per halfhour (Usage 6 € per half hour).
But the better option for travellers might be (click on the green tab) Pret a Rouler – there’s no subscription cost but lets you rent a Bluecar all year round for € 9.50 per half hour. Reserving a Bluecar costs € 1 per reservation.
Once you decide, you’ll be given a RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) badge and you’re set to go!
2. You’re now ready for Electric Car Rental in Paris.
Head to any Autolib Bluecar rental station, and get your Bluecar. Pass your RFID badge over the sensor to unlock the Bluecar. Look a the sensor – if it’s green you are good to go. If red, try again. Unplug the cable and make sure it recoils properly, then close the lid on the recharging unit.
Check the battery range, and the condition of the car. Any problems? Scratches? Dings? Report them to the call centre via the rental kiosk before you drive away. Last step? Get in your Bluecar, turn the ignition key, and prepare yourself for adventure. Buckle your seatbelts, and away you go.
4. Homeward Bound
When you are done, select an Autolib station via the onboard GPS. Head direct to a rental station, park the car, and use your RFID badge to clock in on the recharging unit. Plug it in, and get it ready for the next user. Remember to take your things with you.
